Addiction care has professionalised, yet many doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and psychologists still lack sufficient practical knowledge of substances, lived experience and recovery. This causes misunderstandings, late detection, stigma and poorly matched treatments. The solution is not radical experiments but systematic improvement of education and further training, building on existing structures in the Netherlands and Belgium.
